Dülkadir Bey'in oğludur. Bir aşiretten bir hükümet kurmuştur. Uruk reisliği, babasının ölümü ile kendi eline geçtiği zaman Anadolu ve Suriye karışıklıklar içinde bulunuyordu. Karaca Bey zeki bir gözle önüne açılan fırsatı gördü ve cesur bir hamle ile Kahramanmaraş ve Elbistan şehirlerini eline geçirerek bir beylik kurdu,(1337) Böylece Dulkadiroğulları sülalesini ve Dülkadir (Zülkad-riye) hükümetini kurmuş olan Zeynuddin Karaca Bey, ekseri devlet kurucularında görülen ihtiraslara kapılma dan uzun süren hükümdarlığı sırasında, eli ne geçirdiği küçük arazi ile yetinerek etrafın husumet ve saldırısını üzerine çekmeden beyliğin hükümranlığını devam ettirmiştir. Karaca Bey'in cesur, gözü ve eli bol olduğu, daha önceleri Mısır ve Şam emriyle birlikte cenklere katılarak bir çok yararlılıklar gösterdiği, muharebelerde aldığı malların çoğunu silah arkadaşları arasında taksim ettiği, daha sonra Halep valisi Yılboğa ile bozuştuğu, üzerine gelen Yılboğa Kuvvetlerini Düldül Dağında perişan ederek Mısır Süvarilerini bozguna uğrattı. Bunun üzerine Mısır Sultanının Karaca Bey'e emanate ve Elbistan Naipliğini verdiği, Karaca Bey'in Melik al-Kahir unvanını takındığı, 1346 yılında Sis (Kozan) tekfurunu yenerek Mısır Sultanına göndermekte olduğu haracın Dülkadir Beyliğine gönderilmesini emrettiği, buna kızan Mısır Sultanının Şam Valisini Kahramanmaraş üzerine sevkettiği, Karaca Beyle Düldül Dağında yapılan 20 günlük savaş sonunda Dulkadir'lilerin yenildiği, Karaca Bey'in Kayseri'ye kaçarak orada tevkif edilip Halep'e sonra Kahire'ye gönderilerek 11 Ocak 1353 tarihinde asılmak suretiyle öldürüldüğü tarih kaynaklarından anlaşılmaktadır.
